Let’s talk about… Shame

What happens when we want to disappear?

For the third edition of our “Let’s talk about…” series, ISB invites you to an open conversation about shame and embodiment. Together, we will explore how shame shapes the way we inhabit our bodies, relate to ourselves and encounter others, and what can help us stay connected to our dignity when shame makes us want to withdraw.

Through personal reflections, conversation and impulses from embodied practice, Nino Mar Seliz and Elsa Maria Cardona Santos will invite us to approach shame not simply as something to overcome, but as an experience we can become curious about. What happens in the body when we feel exposed? What makes being seen difficult? And what might allow us to remain present — with ourselves and with others — without losing our sense of dignity?

The format lives from the diversity of experiences, perspectives and perceptions in the room. We want to create a space for embodied reflection, encounter and exchange, a space where we can listen to one another, share what we choose to share, and discover new perspectives together. There is no expectation to disclose personal experiences of shame.

Some of the questions we will explore:

How does shame show up in the body?
What happens to our sense of dignity when we feel exposed?
Can we be seen in our vulnerability and still belong?
What helps us stay connected to ourselves and others in moments of shame?

This talk will be held in English.
