Consent Lab – train your consent muscle

Consent Lab – Train Your Consent Muscle
Being aware of your own boundaries and expressing your consent or lack of consent are important life skills. But we often have little opportunity to practice the skill of consent in the same way we practice singing, playing sports, or learning a language. Yet it often involves much more than simply saying „yes“ or „no.“
The Consent Lab is a place for practice and exploration: We listen within ourselves to understand and feel the nuances— so that even with a „maybe,“ we can make a decision that feels right to us. Through conversations, movement, and partner exercises, we’ll practice expressing and negotiating desires; through hands-on exercises, we’ll set boundaries and explore „friction“ in the nervous system. How can we stay true to ourselves even in moments of dissonance?
I’ll also provide you with theoretical insights into the nervous system, regulation, and the subtle distinction between needs and desires. You’re invited to participate at your own pace, take breaks, and be present in whatever way feels right for you at the moment. You can come once or more often. Bring care and curiosity with you. 🙂
The Consent Lab takes place once a month; you can speak in German or English. The process will always be somewhat similar, giving you the opportunity to explore and practice your own strategies— repeatedly, if you‘d like. Different people may bring out different reactions in you.
There will be a maximum of 12 participants.
My events are queer-centered but open to everyone. Queer-centered means focusing on the well-being of all people whose gender identities, romantic, and/or sexual orientations do not conform to the „mainstream“ and who identify, for example, under the umbrella term LGBTIQA+: lesbian, gay, bi, pan, trans*, non-binary, genderqueer, gender-fluid, queer, questioning, inter*, asexual, aromantic, agender…
I expect participants to show mutual respect and treat one another with care. I assume that you have already engaged with the diversity of identities and social power dynamics on a basic level and have a fundamental understanding of consent. My understanding of consent draws, among other sources, on Betty Martin’s Wheel of Consent (https://bettymartin.org/) and Kai Cheng Thom’s concept of Loving Justice (https://ariseembodiment.org/).
If you’re not sure whether the Consent Lab is right for you or need a little more information to help you decide, feel free to contact me directly at hey@jespajacobsmith.com
I look forward to seeing you!
